Airway Assessment : Predictors of Difficult Airway
نویسندگان
چکیده
Respiratory events are the most common anaesthetic related injuries, following dental damage. The three main causes of respiratory related injuries are inadequate ventilation, oesophageal intubation and difficult tracheal intubation. Difficult tracheal intubation accounts for 17% of the respiratory related injuries and results in significant morbidity and mortality. In fact up to 28% of all anaesthesia related deaths are secondary to the inability to mask ventilate or intubate.1

Airway management is one of the most important subjects in medicine. This article reviews the history, assessment of airway prior to anesthesia, techniques and equip-ment of airway management and management of patients with anticipated and unan-ticipated difficult airways. This article covers recent literature on airway appliances and devices and their use in different circumstances. Airway ass...
متن کاملIncidence of unanticipated difficult airway using an objective airway score versus a standard clinical airway assessment: the DIFFICAIR trial – trial protocol for a cluster randomized clinical trial
BACKGROUND Pre-operative airway assessment in Denmark is based on a non-specific clinical assessment. Systematic, evidence-based and consistent airway assessment may reduce the incidence of unanticipated difficult airway management. By assessing multiple predictors for difficult airway management, the predictive value of the assessment increases. The Simplified Airway Risk Index (SARI) is a mul...

The appropriate airway management is the important point during the anesthesia. For it dose, ‎taking history, physical examination (head and neck, mandible, mouth opening, neck ‎movements …) must be done completely and they are helpful in estimating difficult ‎intubation.‎ It is necessary to note that one case from every ‎‏5000‏‎ cases of anesthesia, not o...
متن کاملLack of national consensus in preoperative airway assessment.
INTRODUCTION Difficult airway management is associated with an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. Several preoperative risk factors associated with airway management difficulties have been proposed; however, no clear guideline for airway assessments exists. We therefore hypothesised that Danish airway assessment was lacking uniformity. We aimed to examine whether multivariable risk asse...
